Stampin’ Up! Christmas Whimsy Kit

 It’s been a long time since I have posted anything and I likely won’t be posting on a regular basis but I had to share these cards using the Christmas Whimsy kit from Stampin’ Up!  It contains everything needed to make 8 cards.  It even includes an acrylic block for the stamps.  The only extras you need are some snips and a bone folder.

My sister and I each had a kit and got together for an afternoon of cardsmaking.

Gnome For The Holidays

 When I received the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalogue I knew I had to have the Gnome For The Holidays stamp set.  My card is based on the card displayed on page 23 of the catalogue.

Warm & Toasty Slimline Card

I have been playing with the Warm & Toasty stamp set from the Stampin' Up! Holiday catalogue and decided to make a slimline card.  The card measures 3 1/2" x 8 1/2".  The greeting is from the Poinsettia Petals stamp set (also in the Holiday catalogue).

The Poppy Project - Niagara Falls Museum

 My sister Cindy and I crocheted poppies for this beautiful display.

 This Remembrance Day, Niagara Falls is commemorating those who protected our freedoms, with a little help from the global community, by coming together to create a beautiful art installation of poppies cascading over the Niagara Falls History Museum.

The Poppy Project is a collaborative community art project by the Niagara Falls History Museum in conjunction with Stick'N Needles, a Niagara Falls stitching guild. We reached out to the public and asked them to knit and crochet poppies to be included in a large-scale art installation. The response was overwhelming, with over 11,000 poppy donations coming from every province in Canada, twenty-five different states in the United States, as well as Denmark and New Zealand. Heartfelt letters accompanied many of the poppies, dedicating them to family members who fought and died in the numerous wars that have affected our world

The poppies are displayed on both the exterior and the interior of the historic 1874 stone building. Local artists Joanne Ring and Emily Andrews were brought on board to help design the pieces. This installation is the first of many we hope to see grow across the City in years to come.

Forever Fern Slimline Cards

 I finally pulled out my Forever Fern stamp set and the coordinating Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper to make a few cards.  I have been following the Sheetload of Cards videos posted by Alisha at Call Me {Crafty} Al on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/callmecraftyal.  Her September video featured slimline cards and I was intrigued.  Over the past few months I have seen this style of card and had not followed the trend - mostly because I didn’t have any envelopes that would fit.  I had to get some ink cartridges from Staples so I ordered a box of #10 envelopes as well.  They are bigger than the card but the card fits.

The finished cards measure 3.5” x 8.5”

Project Comfort Crochet - Part II

 A few more blankets I have made for donation to Project Comfort Crochet.  They will eventually be given to patients at our local cancer treatment centres.

Christmas in the Summer

 I have been making a few Christmas cards over the last few months.  This z-fold card uses the Feels Like Frost Designer Series Paper and the Snow Globe Scenes Dies.

Project Comfort Crochet

There is a lady near me who coordinates donations of crocheted blankets to local cancer treatment centres.    The blankets are given to patients undergoing chemotherapy.  Last year my sister and I donated several blankets.  We will be donating again this year.

Scrappy Strip Technique

I used Bruno and Kylie Bertucci’s scrappy strip technique for these two cards.  The patterned papers are from the same package - Delightful Daisy (retired).

More Crochet

The designer of this afghan used multiple colours (6 I think).  I decided to do it in a single colour and chose eggshell.  I am so glad I did that - fewer ends to weave in but more importantly I love the vintage look of my project.

Crochet - Woven Mosaic Blanket

In addition to card making I have also been crocheting.  I participated in a crochet stitch along this past spring.  It was out of my comfort zone but I really enjoyed the process and I am very happy with the finished blanket.
